The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is making clarifications after the alalum that arose after the JMC for holders of a type B diploma.
The clarifications of the ministry come after the publication of the ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ according to which “the holder of a category B driving license can also drive a motorcycle of up to 125 cubic centimeters without exams or training.”
As the competent authority now points out, the regulation refers to the “adaptation of the Information System of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, so that there is the possibility of completing the driving license form”.
This is an amendment to the current directive that is now being adapted to the relevant European directive on equivalency of degrees. It should be mentioned here that the corresponding equivalency law in our country has not yet been approved, however the information system has been adapted for “preparation” reasons.
The terms and conditions for the equivalence of driving licenses will be determined by the legal framework, in the case of Parliament. Commonly, at the moment, the holder of a category B ‘driving license cannot automatically drive a motorcycle up to 125cc without exams and training, as stated in the initial information from AMPE. In fact, after the first information, there was a strong reaction from the Panhellenic Association of Driving Instructors.
The announcement in detail:
“On the occasion of the Joint Ministerial Decision (A3 / Oik. 56475/6635) signed jointly by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Giannis Kefalogiannis, on the adaptation of Greek legislation to the provisions of Directive 2020/612 / EU of the Commission, of May 4, 2020, which modifies Directive 2006/126 / EC on driving licenses, will specify the following:
This regulation refers only to the adaptation of the Information System of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, so there is the possibility of completing the driving license form.
Therefore, the right to drive a category A1 motorcycle is not automatically granted by a holder of a category B driving license, for which a law is required which, if issued, will describe the terms and conditions for equivalence. driving licenses.
Therefore, this decision does not change the current framework for driving licenses, and therefore the relevant publications, as well as the intentional and misleading reactions of the institutions, are without foundation.
In general, in the context provided by the relevant European directive and based on good practices from other countries, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will consider the issue of equivalence in the context of legislative intervention on Micro-mobility ”.
