Dramatic hours in Bulgaria: ambulances are not enough

The Bulgarian government decides to send patients with Covid-19 to hospitals ambulances are no longer enough, amid an increase in cases.

Ten police minibuses, six of which will be manned by medical personnel, will reinforce the 24 public ambulances in Sofia, Health Minister Konstantin Angelov said at a press conference.

The Minister of Health warned that private hospitals will no longer receive funding by insurance companies, if they do not implement the ministerial decree according to which they must give 10% of their beds to patients with Covid-19. Another 100 beds have been added to the capital, while 17 new ambulances will be launched at the weekend. The ministry is also negotiating with a taxi company to transport patients.

Cases in Bulgaria increased by 80% in one week and today they amount to 54,000 but this number is not considered exact, since the tests carried out are very few. Since the beginning of the pandemic, some 1,300 people have died.

Why intense social reactions however, the government is currently refusing to re-quarantine the country.
