An uproar broke out Saturday night, in Karditsa’s Lappa Square, when police officers, for an unknown reason, handcuffed a couple sitting in the park.
The incident was recorded by passersby with their mobile phones. and the video quickly spread on the Internet.
The video shows a police officer immobilizing the young woman on the ground who yells to stop. At the same time, passers-by are protesting and urging the police to let her go.
As they report local media both the girl and the boy who accompanied her were taken to the police station. It is alleged that the tension began on the occasion of the confinement. However, many residents of the area say that the couple was alone in the place and it was before 9:00 p.m.
It is observed that well into Saturday night Police had not issued a statement about the incident.
