Diplomatic note from Turkey to Greece, Israel and the European Union, requesting permission for “activities on its” continental shelf “in the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to TRT Haber, the reason was a memorandum signed on March 8 and provides for the creation of electrical connections between Greece, Cyprus and Israel.

Turkish diplomatic sources say “According to international law, if cable activities require a preliminary research study, our country should be able to carry them out on our continental shelf. If no previous work is required, our country must be informed about the cable laying activities and their scope in a reasonable time.».

The diplomatic note comes a day before the 62nd round of exploratory contacts between Greece and Turkey. It is recalled that the Greek side reached the 61st round of exploratory contacts, after almost five years, with the subject of discussion only the delimitation of maritime zones (EEZ, continental shelf, territorial waters).
