The Fire Service has organized a large operation for the liberation of a family of three in Karpochori Sofadon.
In addition to the couple, firefighters are trying to free their three-year-old son.
The amount of rain that fell in the area due to the passage of bad weather Ianos was great, with the result that the family was trapped and requested the assistance of EMAK, to avoid danger.
Almost 2,500 calls for help
Due to the dangerous meteorological phenomena that are occurring in various areas of Greece, since the night time of September 17, 2020, The Fire Service has received 2,450 calls for assistance and pumping of water, mainly: in southern Ionian, Western Greece, Central Greece and Thessaly and several of them are ongoing, while 619 rescues have been carried out so far.
Particularly:
- In southern Ionian (Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos and Lefkada), the fire services have received 750 calls and so far 93 rescues, 308 bombs, 198 tree felling and 35 object removal have been carried out.
- In Western Greece (Achaia, Ilia, Etoloakarnania), the Fire Services have received 63 calls and so far 24 bombings and 39 felling of trees have been carried out.
- In central Greece (Lamia, Loutra Ypatis, Leianokladi, Makrakomi and Mexiates) the Fire Services have received 230 calls and so far 76 rescues, 91 bombs and 2 tree fellings have been carried out.
- In Thessaly (Magnesia, Farsala, Karditsa, Mouzaki, Rouso and Sofades) the Fire Services have received 630 calls and so far 450 rescues, 120 bombs and 40 fellings of trees have been carried out.
Observing that the rescue operation of three people was completed in the Almyros Volos area where they were trapped in a torrent. To cope with the incident, 18 firefighters tried with special whitewater rescue equipment, 1 special tracked vehicle and 1 rescue boat.
Finally, according to the announcement of the Fire Brigade, one (1) elderly woman was released unconscious from a house in the Vassili settlement in Farsala, Thessaly.
