Janus bad weather: A rare phenomenon in which the sea reaches the shore without blowing air, the well-known Restia phenomenon occurred in the Rio area.
A flood phenomenon, due to the Mediterranean cyclone “Ianos”, is registered in part of the Rio area, with the result that the sea water has covered part of the coastal zone.
As Nikos Gyftakis, director of the Western Greece Region Civil Protection Directorate, explained to the Athens-Macedonia News Agency, “This phenomenon is called coastal flooding, that is, the sea water rises on land and remains mainly in the coast”.
According to Nikos Gyftakis, “the appearance of the phenomenon is due to the strong winds that blow in the wider sea area and to the high waves”.
In fact, as the head of the Civil Protection Directorate pointed out to APE – MPE, “this phenomenon is known, as it has been observed in the past.”
