Dozens of people were infected with the coronavirus at a birthday party in Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, which has already quarantined 950 people, including students and teachers from ten schools.

A total of 36 guests were infected with the coronavirus at this birthday party. Last Friday there were only 20 cases. However, the increase in the number of infections caused a large attendance at an open-air center where coronavirus tests are carried out, so, as the newspaper “Westfalen-Blatt” writes, large queues of cars are forming today. The municipal authorities asked citizens already at noon not to go to that point, because the system is overloaded.

According to information from the same newspaper, it was a birthday party that was organized in a private place and lasted until night. Visitors were constantly changing and many children from different schools were included, with the result that several classes from ten different schools are now under quarantine. The competent services continue to track all those who came into contact to detect cases of coronavirus.

The head of the city’s crisis management team, Ingo Nuremberg, told “Westfalen-Blatt” that “there are no rules for private holidays, only recommendations and of course there is common sense.” “In the era of the coronavirus epidemic, it does not make sense for dozens of people to visit an apartment, because the consequences are not only borne by the family and their visitors, but also by several hundred students.”

Meanwhile, the Christian Democratic Health Minister of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Karl-Joseph Laumann, announced that the measures for the celebration would be tightened. “We will include in the protocol that private holidays must be announced to the relevant services two weeks in advance and that the list of visitors and the name of the organizer must be given so that the follow-up can be done,” he told local radio.
