A diplomatic crisis broke out in relations between Montenegro and Serbia due to historical events dating back to 1918. The outgoing Montenegrin government expelled the Serbian ambassador to Podgorica, Vladimir Bozovic, accusing him of meddling in internal affairs.
The reason for this reaction was public criticism of Bozovic in the declaration voted in 2018 by the Montenegrin Parliament, annulling the decision of the Montenegrin National Assembly of 1918 to join the Serbian-Croatian kingdom. and Slovenians, which was later renamed Yugoslavia.
The Serbian ambassador described the 1918 decision as “an expression of the free will of the people”, while for the outgoing Montenegrin political leadership it was “an act of subordination unleashed by pressure and fraudulent means”.
The Serbian government responded immediately by removing the Montenegrin ambassador to Belgrade, Tarzan Milosevic, and giving him 72 hours to leave the country.
