Nearly 80 Syrian rebel fighters working with Ankara were killed today in “Russian” airstrikes on a training camp in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, according to the latest report released this afternoon by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Russia is providing military assistance to the Bashar al-Assad regime in the war in Syria, while Turkey is backing some armed groups in Idlib, the last great stronghold of jihadists and rebels.
Today’s attacks, attributed by the guerrillas in Moscow, have claimed the lives of “78 combatants”, according to a new report released by Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Observatory.
According to the Observatory, the airstrikes targeted a position by Failak al-Sam, a Syrian aid group backed by Ankara.
The site, in the northwestern province of Idlib, had recently been turned into a training ground and was home to dozens of fighters, according to Abdel R.
