Attica is under siege from the coronavirus with a rapid increase in cases. Despite the measures, the virus’ rate of spread is not slowing, forcing the government to consider further measures within a few days.
As is known, as of Monday, September 21, all indoor and outdoor concerts are suspended, as well as screenings in winter cinemas. It is also forbidden to gather more than 9 people, indoors and outdoors and for religious ceremonies the maximum will be 20 people.
Even before the new restrictive measures are implemented, government spokesman Stelios Petsas revealed tonight that the prime minister has requested additional measures to be imposed should cases continue to rise.
In short, the government plans to escalate the bans and restrictions to avoid a second lockdown that will have incalculable consequences for the economy. After all, this is the main objective of almost all European governments, which are seeing a rapid outbreak of the second wave of the pandemic on the old continent.
Petsas: No traffic ban problem
Government spokesman Stelios Petsas who spoke with Mega on Saturday clarified that there is no curfew issue, because it cannot be offered at this stage that we are in. “We chose a combination of measures to keep them simple and applicable. But also to be able to control their implementation, so that there is no mood to circumvent them. We choose a package of measures that are compatible with these three criteria. “They are simple, applicable and easy to control,” he explained.
He also said that there are many proposals from the experts and that the Prime Minister has asked the Committee of Experts – since last week – a list of measures, but also under what conditions they can be activated, so that there is a quick reaction from the State if see cases to escape.
“We are constantly taking measures to control the negative evolution of the curve. At the beginning of August, the forecast was that by August 15 and by the end of August we would have exceeded 500 cases per day, possibly up to 700. This did not happen. But we are firmly close to the 300 level. We have to lower it. That is why we are taking these measures. Because if we do not get cases below this level for several days, then there will be pressure on the Health System, be it admission to Intensive Care Units or intubated patients. That is why we act constantly. We call on everyone to listen to the recommendations of the experts, “he stressed.
The new measures
To avoid overcrowding in subways and buses, as of Monday, compulsory teleworking at 40% is introduced for employees in the public and private sectors, as well as the gradual transition of officials to their jobs, at 07:00, 08:00, at 09:00 in the morning. Asymptomatic patients belonging to vulnerable populations such as migrants will from now on be transferred to quarantine hotels. Meanwhile, there is a strong recommendation to restrict travel to those over 65.
The government is ready to implement new measures in case the number of cases in Attica does not decrease. The possibility of resetting the sms for traffic is now open, mainly for the elderly, while no one excludes the confinement, for a period of 15 days.
The focus of scientists is now on the end of October, where an outbreak of the coronavirus is expected, with the coexistence of the seasonal flu.
