An important step in the long battle against the coronavirus pandemic took place on Sunday, when for the first time since October 26, EODY announced a triple-digit number of cases.
After five weeks of lockdown, 693 new cases of coronavirus were registered in Greece, of which 169 in Attica and 151 in Thessaloniki. The tests carried out, however, were less, 15,792 (9,432 molecular and 6,360 rapid).
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also expressed optimism during a teleconference he held on Sunday afternoon with executives from the world’s leading companies in the biopharmaceutical sector.
“I am optimistic about the prospects for Greece. I think we are tackling the Covid pandemic much more effectively than most countries.
We faced difficulties in the second wave of the pandemic, but now the cases have been significantly reduced. “We are, as you know, still locked up and will probably stay until the beginning of January and we have drawn up a very detailed vaccination plan,” stressed the prime minister.
The pressure on the Health System remains
Although daily cases have dropped to such low levels, the pressure on the Health System remains with 552 intubated patients, while another 85 people have lost the battle for life.
Speaking on SKAI TV on Saturday, infectious disease professor Nikos Sypsas highlighted that according to forecasts, the number of intubated people in our country will drop to 200 (a safe number), around January 15 and not before. He explained that we should be prepared for a difficult January.
Experts draw attention to citizens in view of Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Manolis Dermitzakis, categorically stated to SKAI that “we should not talk about New Year’s Eve, the model is of very closed families, with a lot of attention, a second family at most”.
