Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed the schedule and prioritization provided by the government’s strategy for vaccinating citizens against the coronavirus disease, in his position during the broad meeting of the National Vaccination Plan on Friday.
The Pfizer vaccine is expected to be in our country on December 26 and starting the next day, the 27th, vaccinations will begin in Athens and Thessaloniki.
The first to be vaccinated will be a nurse and an elderly fellow citizen.
“According to the latest information we have from the European Medicines Agency, the approval of the first vaccine is expected, it will be from Pfizer, on December 22,” said the prime minister.
“The distributions in Europe will begin shortly after. We estimate that the first batches of the vaccine will be in our country on December 26 and from next, as of December 27, we will be able to have the first vaccinations in five reference hospitals in Athens and immediately after in Salonika.
As you know and following the recommendations of the National Vaccination Committee there will be a strict prioritization in relation to which of our fellow citizens should be vaccinated first. Obviously, employees of the National Health System will precede. Mainly our heroes, who have lifted so much weight in recent months working in our hospitals, in the Health Centers, but of course also the guests in the residences.
And it will be followed immediately by our fellow citizens over 65, we estimate that this age category includes a total of about 2.4 million of our fellow citizens. And our first fellow citizens to be vaccinated in our country will be a nurse and an elderly fellow citizen, ”said Mr. Mitsotakis.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Akis Scherzo, the first phase of vaccination will be completed on January 15 and a large number of citizens will have been vaccinated in March.
According to the government deputy, Aristotle Peloni, vaccinations in our country will enter a massive phase from February, while expressing the hope that by the beginning of summer between 60% -70% of the population will have been vaccinated.

At the same time, we proceed to mass implementation of controls in the population of these areas with the use of rapid antigen tests (rapid test) and with in-depth vertical monitoring of confirmed cases and their close contacts. It is noted that for Kozani special emphasis will be given to the areas of Voio and Eordea.
5. At the same time, controls are intensified to the employees of the companies and especially to the industries of these areas with the application of the 0-5-10 model, that is, control on the first, fifth and tenth days.
6. For employees in Elderly care units, It was decided that they would be analyzed molecularly or with a rapid test every 5 days.
7. It will also take place en masse distribution of protective masks with the care and cooperation of the Local Government.
8. Furthermore, The operation of all public markets is suspended. in the five municipalities of the Regional Unit. At the same time, control with the use of rapid antigen tests (rapid test) of small vendors is mandatory, as a condition for the issuance of a work permit in other areas, as well as periodic review every 3 days.
9. At the same time, immediately start public information campaigns from EODY levels, while at the same time it was decided and is being intensified the controls of the implementation of the measures and the strengthening of the control mechanisms in these areas.
“If the recommendations are not followed, hospitals and ICUs will be filled”
During the briefing on Friday, the professor of pediatric infectious diseases, Vana Papaevangelou, said: “We are very worried if the recommendations are not followed, they will fill hospitals and ICUs in the coming weeks there is no space.”
In this context, he stressed that it is extremely important that the epidemiological situation gradually decreases, however, a possible resurgence is very easy, especially due to contact with an asymptomatic carrier.
At the same time, Papaevangelou pointed out that at this moment “this is not the time for experimentation”, noting that there is a small part of the population, which either disputes or is tired of the measures.
