Pagoni: ICUs are being evacuated

In the morning, the president of the Athens-Piraeus Hospital Physicians Association, Matina Pagoni, noted that 580 coronavirus patients are being treated in hospitals across the country and the average age of intubated patients is 68 years, while there are young people in ICU, even 17 years old, without underlying diseases.

“The ICUs that were not Covid-19 have begun to be evacuated to also become Covid-19,” said the president of EINAP, in statements to the SKAI TV station, confirming that today Intensive Care Units are being evacuated in Attica , while Gennima will continue and other hospitals.

“Right now, evangelism has stalled. It cannot take other patients, it is full and with cases of Covid-19,” he stressed. “We were on duty the day before yesterday. Of the cases that entered the Covid-19, half were intubated. This means that things are not going well, ”estimated Ms. Pagoni. As he said, the cases registered today are a consequence of the situation that prevailed 15 days ago, around September 5, when the last hikers returned shortly before the opening of the schools.

Panagiotopoulos: selective suspension of activities and not complete closure

The public health professor and member of the expert committee, Takis Panagiotopoulos warned that the country is at a crucial point on whether it will register a large exponential increase in cases, “that is, it almost doubles every few days.”

For the lockdown scenario He clarified that what is being discussed is not a complete closure, but a selective suspension of activities and possibly areas. The exact measurements will depend on epidemiological data, the professor stressed, leaving open the possibility of reducing the hours allowed for some activities.
