Shortly before the start of the briefing, EODY announced 1,044 new cases of coronavirus in our country in the last 24 hours.

The “present” in today’s briefing of the accredited authors of the Ministry of Health is also given by the president of EODY, Panagiotis Arkoumaneas, after the debate that has erupted about the number of coronavirus cases and whether it is valid.

The Vice Minister of Health will also participate in the briefing Vassilis Kontozamanis, to answer questions related to the health system.

The number of new coronavirus cases has decreased

“The number of cases has decreased in most of our country,” said Ms Papaevangelou, who stressed, however, that it is now obvious that the measures were not observed by everyone, we see it from the traffic on the streets.

Epidemiological data finally show the reduction of cases, the positivity index, but also the Rt index that has fallen below 1 throughout the country, continued the infectious diseases specialist.

Referring to the feast of St. Andrew, but also to the holidays that follow, Ms. Papaevangelou said: “I appeal to those who celebrate to wish them a warm phone call.”

“Disrespect is synchronicity,” says Vana Papaevangelou

As he said, synchronicity and social gatherings are a lack of respect, towards public health, towards our fellow citizens who respect the measures. The infectious disease specialist asked citizens to think of all these heroes on the front lines. And all those who during the confinement do not have the opportunity to work and live with the agony of unemployment.

Vana Papaevangelou also referred to the way to lift the confinement measures. As he said, the committee collaborates with EODY from which the epidemiological data is reported daily.

“The committee will propose proposals for the lifting of some measures of the confinement,” he said, highlighting that the key parameters are the great spread of the coronavirus, but also the pressure of the ICU in the country’s hospitals.

Compliance with the measures respectfully and after any removal of the blockage.

However, Ms. Papaevangelou pointed out that it would be ideal if the gradual lifting of the measures was accompanied by a change in our behavior. “The informal life that we are all used to is out of touch with reality,” he said. “Our goal is to stay healthy in another normalcy,” he said.

Finally, Vana Papaevangelou stressed that the country’s hospitals held out and asked citizens not to avoid hospitals for diseases other than Covid.

Gikas Majorkinis, Associate Professor at the EKPA School of Medicine and a member of the Expert Committee, called on all citizens to pay due attention. “It takes extreme care,” he said.

Mr. Majorkinis initially referred to epidemiological data at world and European level, while referring to Greece he explained that “extreme care is needed”, emphasizing that Attica showed a reduction in the number of diagnoses by 30%, while that for Thessaloniki the corresponding percentage was of the order of 20%.

“The decline in urban centers is clearly more noticeable compared to the rest of Greece.” Rt fell below unity in Attica and Thessaloniki, “noted Mr. Majorkinis, who was quick to clarify that Rt is different from viral load in these two cities.

Mr. Majorkinis estimated the active cases to be what they were at the beginning of November. “Follow the rules, wear masks and avoid meeting people you are not with every day,” he said to end.
