Greece “broke” the “barrier” of 5,000 deaths from the coronavirus pandemic on Monday afternoon (04/01).
It is characteristic that on December 18 Greece “broke” the barrier of 4,000 deaths, while at seventeen days more than 1,000 new deaths were added.
The deadliest day of the pandemic, in terms of deaths, was Saturday, November 28, where our country registered 121 deaths in 24 hours.
On Monday, EODY announced 427 new cases and 54 deaths from COVID-19, reaching a total of 5,011.
Of those who died, 2,976 (59.4%) were male, while the median age was 79 years and 95.5% had an underlying disease and / or were 70 years or older.
Anxiety about the epidemiological effects of holidays
In recent days, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias has expressed concern about the spread of the virus during the Christmas season. He recalled that the image of the behavior of citizens will be captured in 15 days for the New Year.
Alarm in 8 areas of Attica
At the same time, authorities are concerned about a number of areas in Attica where active cases appear to be increasing.
According to a report from SKAI, there are many “orange” areas in Attica, which tend to turn “red”.
The number of active cases, which stands at 2,215, may seem small but there has been a significant increase in the last ten days and the most worrying thing is that the rate of decline is very slow.
Of the 2,215 active cases in Attica, 468 are registered in the center of Athens, 158 in Piraeus, 108 in Peristeri, 102 in Aspropyrgos -although it is locked up-, 101 in Menidi and Zefyri, Ilion and Keratsini there are 270 cases assets.
