British hospitals have been alerted to preparations to start coronavirus vaccines within ten days, and British National Health Service (NHS) staff were the first to be vaccinated, according to The Guardian.
According to the NHS administration, hospitals in England could receive the first supplies of Pfizer vaccines, until Monday, December 7, as the approval of the vaccine is expected in the next few days.
“We were told to wait for the vaccine to arrive by December 7 and we plan to vaccinate our staff all week,” said a hospital chief.
The order of priority
According to the government plan, initially only medical personnel will be vaccinated. Thus enters the “ice” the initial plan according to which, priority in vaccination would be given to the elderly living in care units.
This evolution has already provoked reactions in the ranks of the heads of care structures, who affirm that if such a thing really happens, it will be a “betrayal”.
According to The Guardian, it is the nature of the Pfizer vaccine that leads to a priority order adjustment.
The battle of the two vaccines
The chemical composition of this vaccine requires, as experts claim, a limited number of movements. Therefore, doctors cannot transport you to nursing homes or their homes.
People living in the units listed above or over 80 years of age are expected to receive the University of Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine, which is also expected to receive marketing authorization.
Unlike the Pfizer vaccine, it does not need to be kept between -70 and -80 degrees Celsius, but it can be stored in ordinary refrigerators and can easily be transported to homes of the elderly by doctors and nurses.
Aircraft and facilities available
According to the Wall Street Journal, United Airlines has already launched charter flights to Pfizer’s vaccine storage sites to begin shipping immediately after approval.
With vaccine storage facilities in Michigan and Belgium, pharmaceutical company Pfizer is expected to add similar facilities in Wisconsin and Karlsruhe, Germany.
