Government and health authorities remain vigilant due to the increase in coronavirus cases.
At the same time, both the number of intubated patients and their age show a significant increase.
It is noteworthy that according to official data, in September there was a 70% increase in the number of patients admitted to the ICU. It is observed that the number corresponding to August 30 did not exceed 36.
According to yesterday’s EODY data, 54 of our fellow citizens are hospitalized for intubation. Their average age is 70 years. 12 (22.2%) are women and the rest are men. 88.9% of intubated patients have an underlying disease or are 70 years or older. 171 patients have been discharged from the ICU.
Thus, as around one out of every two beds in the Attica Intensive Care Units where patients with COVID-19 infection are treated is already occupied, the direction of the Ministry of Health is working intensively for the operation of new beds.
In fact, Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed this issue during today’s press conference at TIF.
According to the prime minister “by the end of the year we will have 1,200 permanent intensive care”. He also noted that 6,818 additional doctors and nurses were hired, while adding that permanent positions will be announced.
At the same time, Attica remains in the “eye” of the pandemic, which accounts for almost 50% of cases almost daily, yet “headaches” are also caused by the influx in Pella and Pieria.
Yesterday EODY announced 207 new cases of coronavirus, with more than half registered in Attica (120). The death toll has already exceeded 305, while the intubated ones have reached 54.
This is the reason why the universal use of the mask has been heard more and more in the last twenty-four hours, with the government and members of the Ministry of Health commission clarifying that the time has not yet come to impose this measure. .
Referring to the universal use of the mask, the professor of Infectious Diseases and Pathology at the University of Patras and a member of the committee, Charalambos Gogos, highlighted – speaking with MEGA – that it is an easy measure in case of high outbreaks, but the current epidemiological data in the country they do not show it. the direction.
Experts “see” an increase in cases
The Pulmonologist – Coordinator and Director of the VII Pulmonary Clinic “Sotiria”, Mina Gaga, said, in statements to MEGA, that the increase in cases is terrifying, since there are outbreaks and hospital and ICU admissions are quadrupled.
For his part, the president of the Panhellenic Medical Association, Athanasios Exadachtylos, stressed to ANT1 that at this moment we have a situation that is deteriorating, but until now it is being controlled. According to him, in July there were a total of 12 deaths, in August 65 deaths and in the first 10 days of September 31 deaths. He also estimated that with the opening of schools the number of cases will increase, however what the experts are looking for is that there is no vertical increase that results in the closure of departments in a row.
