A very small number of coronavirus cases was announced today, not indicative of the prevailing situation in Greece, at a time when both deaths and intubations remain high.
As mentioned above, this number is not indicative of the epidemiological situation in our country, since the tests were announced today, yesterday, New Years, which was a holiday and most of the diagnostic centers did not work.
However, extremely worrying is the fact that our country is entering a new strict universal closure as of tomorrow, Sunday 1/3, with intubations and deaths that remain high.
This is, after all, the reason that led the government to take a step back by closing – for at least a week – shops and hairdressers and everything that had been opened in the context of the slight relaxation of the measures.
The EODY announcement
Specifically, EODY announced today 262 new cases of the deadly virus, of which 22 were detected after controls at the country’s gateways.
Thus, the total number of cases amounts to 139,709, of which 52.3% are men. During the follow-up, it was found that 5,457 (3.9%) are considered related to trips from abroad and 41,741 (29.9%) are related to an already known case.
In addition, 431 people are treated by intubation. Their average age is 67 years. 288 (66.8%) of those intubated are men. 79.8% of intubated patients have an underlying disease or are 70 years or older. 896 patients have been discharged from the ICU since the start of the pandemic.
Finally, we have 40 new deaths from COVID-19, reaching 4,921 deaths in total in the country, of which 2,918 (59.3%) are men. The mean age of our deceased fellow citizens was 79 years and 95.5% had an underlying disease and / or were 70 years or older.
Age distribution
The mean age of the cases is 44 years (range 0.2 to 104 years), while the mean age of death is 79 years (range 24 to 103 years). The age distribution of (a) total cases, (b) cases that resulted in death, and (c) patients treated by intubation, is as follows:
Geographic dispersion
