In fact, those involved among the accused are tough criminals and some are well known to the authorities for their past. It is noted that one of the two murderers of the lawyer Michalis Zafeiropoulos recently tried to escape from these prisons, but in failing to do so he was transferred to the Prisons of Thessaly and is being investigated, among other things, if the pistols had something to do with him.
It is also observed that the participation of the Fight against Terrorism does not concern persons linked to terrorism, the information was simply theirs and consequently their auxiliary presence in the investigation was considered necessary.
More specifically, from yesterday afternoon until dawn today, by police officers from the Corfu Security Sub-Directorate, in collaboration with the Corfu Detention Center, with the assistance of the Special Unit for the Suppression of Terrorism (EKAM ) and the Special Directorate for Crimes of Violence (DAEEV), a search was carried out in two wings (common areas and cells) of the Corfu Detention Center.
The operation was carried out in the presence of the Director of the Detention Center and the Deputy Prosecutor of the Corfu Court of First Instance, in the context of the proper use and evaluation of data-information for drug trafficking within the Detention Center .
As part of the search, a handgun with a 6-round magazine, a knife and an improvised nylon packet of drugs, possibly heroin, in the form of a stone with a total gross weight of 9.1 grams, carefully hidden, was found and seized. on a metal wall in a public area.
Completely hidden within a wall in a common area, a pistol with a 6-round magazine, a 7-round magazine and a silencer. In cells and other common areas 3 improvised cigarettes with raw cannabis plant extracts, 2 mobile phones and a charger, 4 improvised knives, 3 hands-free headphones and a charging cable (usb).
In the courtyard, inside the shoe of an unknown prisoner, 19 makeshift packages with extracts of raw hemp plants with a total gross weight of 9.0 grams and 2 wooden bats.
Once the investigation was completed, a case was brought against 8 detainees from the detention center (one Greek and 7 Albanians) for the crimes of illegal possession of drugs and illegal possession of firearms, as the case may be.
So far, all other findings have been attributed to specific detainees, except for the two pistols which, precisely because they are hidden in public areas, are not easy to attribute to specific people.
The preliminary investigation is being continued by the Corfu Sub-Directorate of Security and especially the case of the murderer of Zafeiropoulos who was recently transferred to other prisons and some of his equally cruel criminal compatriots, who have drawn more attention with the assessment that they were preparing a noisy and bloody incident.
Also part of the ongoing investigation is to provide answers on how the pistols were found in the Prisons, how, if they arrived piece by piece and were assembled, through whom, etc.
These investigations are part of the cooperation between the Hellenic Police Headquarters and the General Secretariat for Anti-Crime Policy.
