The Ministry of Education is moving towards a reduction of the subject in the Panhellenic Exams. This is because the search for dates for the lifetime reopening of high schools begins, as happened last spring, after the first lockdown due to the coronavirus.
At the same time, according to certain information of “K”, the announcement of the organization of the Bank of Subjects through the NSRF advances, with approximately 20,000 emissions. However, the official ministerial green light remains through the relevant decision. Through the Subject Bank, half of the subjects for the high school promotion exams will be selected, with the first application, as planned, to this year’s high school students. The Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, has already asked the Educational Policy Institute (IEP) for a suggestion on how much distance education will affect the implementation of the Thematic Bank.
In particular, an important theme of the school year, as it unfolds, is the variety of material that will be tested in the Panhellenic exams, as students are not familiar with the distance learning process. The ministry claims that e-learning completely replaces life, yet existing technical problems (although limited in scope and duration) create discontinuity in educational work. In this context, an intervention is expected. Characteristically, ministry officials told “K” that if secondary schools and high schools reopen in mid-December, the material will need to be updated. As for elementary schools, according to “K”, it is possible to extend the suspension until December 7.
Thus, it is estimated that the final adjustment may reach the level of last year, when it was reduced between 25% and 30%, depending on the course. This also serves to avoid the organization of double panhellenic exams, as 2020 graduates who want to retake will be tested on reduced material. Also, in May (when schools reopened on 11/5) high school students did replays of the material taught up to then. However, “the situation will be evaluated step by step, depending on the progress of the courses,” an official from the Ministry of Education told “K”, recalling last spring.
At the same time, OLME requested the extension of the submission deadline by the students of the application to participate in the Panhellenic exams (expires 11/30), while the educational federations will participate in the ADEDY strike.
