The CoE invites the “Karelia” tobacco industry to pay about 4.6 million euros because it practically exported some 3,550 boxes of Karelia LIGHTS 100s cigarettes with the participation of employees of the Nikis Customs.
In particular, according to the First Issue, it was decided that the Karelian tobacco industry was well charged excise and other taxes, amounting to 4,681,318 euros, for cigarette smuggling, through virtual exports of around 3,500 boxes of Karelia LIGHTS 100s cigarettes to Nikis (Florina) and with the participation of customs officials.
As noted in the article, this is not the first time that the issue of cigarette smuggling from the tobacco industry “Karelia” occupies the Second Department of the Supreme Court of Cassation.
Two years ago, the CoF was concerned about the actions of Customs Chief Nikis, who charged Andreas Karelias and the tobacco industry with five customs smuggling offenses. The crimes involved the smuggling of cigarettes to Skopje with the trick of fictitious exports.
From the virtual export of 1,000 cartons of cigarettes, worth 253,000 euros, the State loses 1,312,228 euros of excise tax plus VAT.
