After a major operation in the Akrotiri Tainaros maritime zone under the coordination of the Directorate of Drug Prosecution and Smuggling (DIDINAL) of the LS-EL.AKT. Headquarters, a large quantity of drugs was seized.

Specifically, in the morning of 8-10-2020 and as part of an orderly service, a floating patrol boat from L / H Gythio located a high-speed inflatable boat with three occupants, which was carrying cargo covered with canvas, moving at high speed with no visible navigation. Drugs found by the Coast Guard

The neighboring port authorities were immediately informed and personnel and means were activated to locate the suspicious vessel, which was found at noon on 08/10/2020, half submerged, without cargo or passengers, near Cape Tainaros. Inside were eight cans of fuel. During the investigations that followed and after the collection, use and analysis of data by DIDINAL staff in collaboration with security officials from the Gythio and Kalamata port authorities, and the assistance of the MYA / LS team, in a rocky area inaccessible near Akrotiri Tainarou, bay, the following were carefully stored:

  • twenty travel bags and
  • eight different types of packages containing five hundred and ninety-six packages (596) containing a quantity of processed hemp weighing eight hundred ten kilos and three hundred and fifty grams (810,350 kg).
  • Thirty-two (32) packages of various types containing a quantity of raw hemp of three hundred and seventy-four kilos and nine hundred and sixty grams (374,960 kg).
  • The total expected benefit of the elimination of the mentioned amount of hemp (processed and raw) is estimated at 6,750,000 euros.

Arrest of two foreigners

The vessel and the amount mentioned were seized. Extensive investigations continued in the wider land area east of Mani to locate and detain the occupants of the aforementioned alleged ship.
At noon on 10-11-2020, a suspected foreigner was arrested inside a health store in the Marmari area of ​​eastern Mani, who happened to be one of the three occupants of the drug transport boat. Later that day, another foreign accomplice was arrested, who had traveled from Athens to pick him up to escape arrest.
On the morning of today 10-13-2020, and while the investigations continued at a steady pace, DIDINAL executives arrested the other two foreigners who were circulating on a provincial highway in Laconia prefecture.

The file formed was presented to the prosecutor of the Gythio Court of First Instance by the Gythio Port Authority, which carried out the preliminary investigation.
