The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Civil Protection, has informed the competent state services involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, so that they are on greater alert for civil protection, in order to to immediately address the effects of severe weather.
At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection advises citizens to be very careful, taking measures to protect themselves from the dangers derived from the occurrence of severe weather events.
In particular, in areas where heavy rain, storms, or stormy winds are forecast, the GGP recommends residents:
- Secure items that, if swept away by severe weather, could cause damage or injury.
- Make sure gutters and gutters in houses are not blocked and are working normally.
- Avoid crossing streams and streams, on foot or by vehicle, during storms and rain, but also for several hours after the end of your event.
- Avoid field work and activities in the sea and coastal areas during severe weather (risk of lightning).
- Take immediate precautions during a hail storm. Take cover in a building or car and do not leave the safe area until you are sure the storm is over. Hail can also be very dangerous for animals.
