Christmas with hard numbers and crash review

The Greeks experienced a completely different Christmas this year with the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown limiting holiday events to a minimum. And many may have come to the family table at noon and a walk around town in the afternoon, but there are many of our fellow citizens who mourned the dead this Christmas.

As much as the empty streets with Christmas lights create sadness, the emptiness experienced by the families of our 50 peers who refreshed themselves on Christmas Day is even greater. Another 470 people fight in the ICU to defeat the coronavirus.

Kalivia: What are the authorities looking for in the murder of 60 years at the Health Center?

From the 1st of the month until today, Christmas, the coronavirus has claimed 2,101 lives. The element that most worries infectious disease specialists and those responsible for ANS is the number of intubated patients, which is decreasing, although at an extremely slow rate.

But there is also good news: daily cases present a positive outlook, the number tending to stabilize below 1,000. At the same time, the ECDC positivity index for our country is “green”, that is, below 4%.

Finally, the vaccines arrived in our country as a Christmas gift, the first vaccinations being on Sunday.

Concern for West Attica

The burden in the Attica area, which has recently become a “champion” of daily cases, is declining at an extremely slow rate.

Characteristically, one third of current cases have been recorded in Attica, while the burden reduction continues in Thessaloniki.

It is worrying that in the western sector of Athens, where the cases today were 39, the percentage per 100,000 inhabitants is still high (24,23).

However, it is not West Attica that is concerned. In recent days, several cases have appeared in the center of Athens, a fact that is being carefully examined by those responsible.
