Christmas 2020 – Happy New Year everyone: This vacation, more than ever we need something more than vaccine against Covid 19, but to find the vaccine of hope and love.
Is there such a vaccine? We want to believe that it exists because the social isolation of recent months keeps us away not only from our friendly environment. It keeps us away from our emotions. Can a person live without emotions?
At the end of this adventure it is certain that many of us will come out different. That is the big bet. Maintain contact with our emotions and our ability to adapt to problems. What does this mean; To maintain our resilience. That is, the individual’s ability to overcome difficulties, to maintain their adequacy despite adversity, to “recover”, to recover from trauma, to give a new meaning to their existence.
It is true that we now live in unprecedented conditions, as a virus has taken over the entire planet. Science and technological progress are unable to master the phenomenon, in the end, man is not as “invulnerable” as some of us think he hides behind our arrogance.
The conditions brought us down abruptly and violently led us to states of depression and loneliness.. Now these Christmas It takes a lot of effort to get out of the self-sacrifice process together. To pick up the thread again from the beginning and meet again with the previous generations, the older and older, that we must protect, and the next generations, the children, that we must protect.
Life is beautiful and it doesn’t end so easily. Also don’t forget that the next day we are all called to show that we are not part of a statistical survey. We are called to reverse the prevailing perception that we are all considered statistical numbers and units of measurement that cost money. No, we are not part of an algorithm that counts the cases, dead and intubated.
It is a good opportunity to build a new relationship of trust between the state and the citizens. Something that did not exist in the past. A new social contract with the institutions of the State, which can function as a multiplier with the Greek philotimos.
It is not only the “candy” of individual responsibility that plays a role here, but the responsibility of leadership that must inspire the citizen.
Along with the vaccine, reliable and safe injections are needed.
This is the wish we are looking for in the new year, at least in Greece.
