Twenty-six Turkish nationals fled to Chios on Sunday afternoon in search of political asylum, saying they were being persecuted by the Erdogan government.

To go unnoticed, the Turks used small fishing boats, in which they hoisted the Greek flag, so they managed to openly reach the Agia Ermioni area, when they were noticed by vessels of the Central Port Authority of Chios.

In fact, two of them, knowing the process, attempted to pierce the ships with a drill to cause a shipwreck, resulting in their arrest a few hours later.

All 24, including children, were taken to the quarantine structure in Lefkonia and both to the detention centers of the Central Port Authority of Chios.

All of them received an administrative fine of 5,000 euros and a case was filed for illegal entry into the country.
