Early Saturday afternoon, 26 Turkish nationals landed on the shores of Chios to seek political asylum, saying they were being persecuted by the Recep Tayyip Erdogan regime.
To go unnoticed, the Turks used small fishing boats, in which they hoisted the Greek flag, so they managed to openly reach the Agia Ermioni area, when they were noticed by vessels of the Central Port Authority of Chios. According to politischios.gr, two of them, knowing the process, tried to drill holes in the boats to cause a shipwreck, resulting in their arrest a few hours later.
All 24, including children, were taken to the quarantine structure in Lefkonia and two to the detention centers of the Central Port Authority of Chios. All of them received an administrative fine of 5,000 euros and a case was filed for illegal entry into the country.
