[ad_1]

There was a new, albeit marginal, decrease in the country’s population, since as of January 1 of this year the permanent population is estimated at 10,718,565 people (5,215,488 men and 5,503,077 women), or 0, 06% less than the local population. corresponding population of January 1, 2019 which was 10,724,599 people. This evolution is the consequence of the natural decline in the population that amounted to 40,473 people (83,628 births against 124,101 deaths of people with a habitual place of residence within Greek territory), which was partially offset by net migration, which is estimated at 34,439 people (positive).

Likewise, according to the data of the estimated permanent population of the country as of January 1, 2020 and the estimates of migratory flows for 2019 from ELSTAT:

The population aged 0 to 14 years represented 14.2% of the total population, compared to 63.5% of the population aged 15 to 64 years and 22.3% of the population aged 65 and over. The aging index (population aged 65 and over compared to the population aged 0-14) amounts to 156.2. The majority (3,738,901 people or 34.9%) live, as expected, in Attica.

Net migration is estimated at 34,439 people, which corresponds to the difference between 129,459 incoming migrants and 95,020 outgoing. In 2018, net migration was estimated at 16,440 people (119,489 inbound migrants and 103,049 outbound). It is observed that the incoming immigration data also includes people who were in our country on 1/1/2020 due to the refugee crisis.
