Tassos Nikologiannis writes on onsports.gr, about the last friendly before the championship and Carlitos, Serpezis, who stood out, despite the loss to PAOK.
This defeat, second in a row in friendly with PAOK with 1-0 it has nothing to do with his defeat Panathinaikos Lamia with the same score as the previous game. On other occasions I have stressed that in friendlies the results do not play a role, but we see some things that the coaches try to work on on the performance of the teams and the progress of the players.
Panathinaikos against PAOK offensively was much better than any other friendly, he got two great opportunities with Savier and Makenda and two other very good ones with Carlitos and little by little it seemed that his players were on the field. The defeat could have come, but according to the possibilities of the match, the fairest result was a draw.
I cannot draw many other conclusions about the performance, because PAOK had many absences, as did Panathinaikos. The only thing I saw, that Panathinaikos liked, was that PAOK were playing openly, so the “greens” found their place mainly in the second half. This 4-3-3 does not change and Pogiatos seems not to think of anything else.
I want to focus on two players. Carlitos first. It is obvious that he lacks games, he has no rhythm, but today he was much better than in the friendly with Lamia and it seemed that if he plays in the area he will score many goals this year. We saw it today. Twice the ball reached him in the area, once Zivkovic caught the elusive one, the other time Crespo found the ball and saved the goal. The guy is a scorer and Pogiatos will have to find a way to take advantage of his executive skills. Using it either to the left or to the right deprives you of the ability to see focus and immediately “execute” something you have. In the friendly with PAOK he played a little deeper and seemed “better” with Makenda, but the opposing defense felt it when he was in the area.
I think that Panathinaikos have found a scorer in the person of Carlitos, who has been missing for a few years and this offensive weapon must be used.
The second player that I really liked for another friendly was Serpezis. The vertical pass he makes to Savier, if he made a transfer abroad, we would say “what games we got.” He played six, covered his space many times and with the exception of one, two false passes due to inexperience, in the first half he was excellent in the rest of the game.
Given that Bouzoukis was left out in recent friendlies due to injury and “Vigia” is injured, it won’t surprise me to see key Serpezis in Tripoli as an eight with Kourbelis six. He has a very good passing, quick thinking, but at the same time he runs and helps a lot. It seems to me that he is willing to take the risk this year and I should give it to him.
Christogeorgos is responsible for the goal conceded by the team (he is inexperienced, but has very good data to develop), as well as Sánchez, Veleth, who lost Akpom at the beginning of the phase. The Argentine defender was much better than with Lamia. He runs non-stop, and in the second half he found space and helped aggressively. Veleth is a good defender, we know that and he showed it with PAOK for the longest time.
Otherwise, Savier had a great opportunity and did not show anything good tonight. The bad thing is that Panathinaikos will play in Tripoli the first game with a squad, which Pogiatos has not seen, not even in a friendly. Or because some were injured and are returning, or because there were international absences. And don’t be fooled. The match in Tripoli is official and has nothing to do with friendlies and Panathinaikos must correct many things in attack, to be effective in defense, to achieve victory.
So the team against PAOK showed some good things, but the officials count and that’s where the results count, which in friendlies don’t matter much. We are also going to Tripoli and we do not know who will be the main left back (since the next transfer he will not be able to play). Zagaritis (logically) who played in the other friendlies, or Mavromatis, who played 90 minutes today? And in a position that is not his position and he did well defensively. Zagaritis, I repeat, will play by logic and Pogiatos may want to stop Mavromatis, to decide that he will stay, but logic says that he will stay. I just think that in the last rehearsal before the championship you put as many basics as you can and your left back.
As for Ayub, he may know the ball, but so far he has no substance in friendlies and is delaying development. He played eight and did not threaten the opponent’s home. And that for me is worrying in view of the official matches that are coming. The team wants a job and especially the players to find roles in the field, something that until now we cannot say, for most of them. I also insist that Carlitos MUST play in the area.
* The new appearance of the equipment with the fine stripe is very good. It is not the basic one, but the second aspect and it is beautiful.
