The Capitol in Washington was the target of a new attack on Friday, when a young African-American threw his car at police officers, killing one and wounding another, before being killed by law enforcement fire.
President Joe Biden said he was “shocked” by the incident, which came nearly three months after a deadly attack on the headquarters of Congress by supporters of Donald Trump’s predecessor, including supporters of the far right.
This time, the attack appears to have had different motives.
Police have not officially named the perpetrator, who exited the car waving a knife before falling dead. But the American media reported that it was Noah Green, a twenty-five-year-old African American.

They posted a photo of him and photos on his Facebook account expressing sympathy for the leader of the “Nation of Islam” movement, Luis Farakan, who is often criticized for his anti-Semitic statements.
The website management reacted tonight by posting an announcement emphasizing that it has deactivated the alleged perpetrator’s Facebook and Instagram accounts and says it will remove “any” post that “praises”, or “supports” the “attack or suspect. “».
Other details about the alleged perpetrator began circulating last night. Christophe Newport University has confirmed that Noah Green graduated in economics from this institution in Virginia (Northeast) in 2019.
The incident does not appear to be “terrorism related, but we will obviously continue to investigate,” said Robert Cody, Washington’s acting chief of police.
The deputies and senators were not on Capitol Hill, as Congress will not meet this week due to the Easter holidays. But several of his associates, employees, journalists and police were there when the events unfolded.
Everyone who works on Capitol Hill is still the hardest hit by the January 6 attack, which killed five people, including a police officer.
“We know how difficult this period is for the Capitol, for all who work there and those who protect it,” Biden said in a statement, ordering flags to fly at half mast on all federal public buildings.
Shields in hand, members of the National Guard quickly took up positions around the imposing white building, near the police barricades that blocked the road. They have been taking place in Washington since January.

On a very nearby boulevard, the attacker’s blue sedan remained in the dam where it crashed for hours, before finally driving away.
“The suspect hit two of our men with his car,” Capitanol Police Chief Yogananda Pitman said before falling over a barricade.
“At that moment, the suspect got out of the vehicle with a knife in his hand” and “began to move towards the police” who “opened fire” on him, he added.
The young suspect fell dead around 1:30 p.m. (local time; 8:30 p.m. Cyprus time).
In a cracking voice, the Capitol Police Chief announced the death of Officer William Evans, who had worked for him for 18 years.
“The Capitol Police are going through an extremely difficult period after the events of January 6,” he admitted.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered flags to be flown on Capitol Hill at half mast to pay tribute to the dead police officer, whom she described as “a witness to our democracy.” He praised “these heroes who once again risked their lives to protect the Capitol and our country.”

Two weeks ago, authorities began removing the outer barbed wire fence and barricades around the Capitol after the January 6 attack.
