We have a rich agenda at today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers. All issues are de facto, possibly secondary, influenced by Covid’s second wave topicality.

We will have the opportunity to discuss these issues today in an extraordinary European Council, to see to what extent we can agree on a trans-European system of action. However, until that happens, the measures taken by each country are the national responsibility of each government. In Greece we have comparatively, I emphasize, better results than the rest of Europe. I would say that we are probably 2-3 weeks behind what other European countries are experiencing today.

But I have to tell you that the pressure on the health system is greater than ever and we must, as in the first phase in which we acted early, again take stricter measures and before other European countries to prevent the worst. , to save human lives and reduce the pressure exerted on the Health System.

Tomorrow I will announce a new one-month action plan. Today I will not go into details, I will only say that we now know from the tracking processes which economic activities cause a problem of rapid spread of the virus and which do not cause such a large spread of the virus, so we will adjust our plan for next month to the real data. that we have at our disposal.

The next 15 days are literally crucial and on this front each Ministry has its own position. For example, the telework that we have implemented should be observed and monitored by all of you. Transport has already begun to find immediate solutions to improve conditions for daily commutes. It is a continuous struggle that takes place.

And of course the Ministries of Finance are already working on measures to alleviate workers and companies that will be de facto more affected than the measures that we will announce.

It is also clear that we will strengthen, we have already done, controls in cooperation with the local government, the Greek police and the National Transparency Authority.
I think what Professor Sotiris Tsiodras said on Tuesday about our individual responsibility and rules as education for the exercise of our personal freedom are catalysts. In this field and in this direction we will insist on informing, convincing, controlling.

It is important to understand once again that small setbacks for a short period of time can bring great results for a long time.

I also want to refer to the fact that I am particularly concerned; Instead of using a stricter expression, I find it unacceptable that some have chosen to target scientists. And I think that, in particular, the attack on the professor, Mr Tsiodras, which is very systematic in recent days, is unacceptable.

If our political opponents want to criticize us, we are here to criticize the government, me personally, the responsible ministers, but the scientists who do everything possible to present their scientific knowledge to the State to make our own decisions is something that I think is Completely wrong, especially at a time when we must regain the public’s trust in the correctness of the measures we are taking.

I conclude by saying that yesterday’s anniversary highlighted the two fronts that our country faces today with great challenges: the health front and the national front, and at the same time highlighted security as an element that horizontally crosses these two great challenges.

But I think it was also an opportunity to bring to the fore the ingredient that will lead us and now I believe in the victorious result of the struggles that we wage: the disposition of the State, unity, the mobilization of citizens. On the one hand, state care, on the other, conscious individual responsibility.

And I am sure that this thought was done yesterday by all Greek women, all Greek women, even without the occasion of parades or traditional events. It was yesterday, a celebration of self-awareness and unity and we must keep this spirit alive by making it a daily practice. All in their field and all together in Greece as a whole.
