The National Blood Donation Center (EKEA) called for the cessation of sending samples from hospitals as the huge volume of daily molecular tests for coronavirus pushed the system to its limits.
The administration of the National Blood Donation Center, which conducts most of the tests in the Territory, issued an order to Health Districts 1 and 9, which are responsible for the hospitals in Athens, Piraeus and the islands, but also from Central Greece, not to send EKEA samples for coronary testing.
“I inform you that as of today 1.9.2020 the National Blood Donation Center will not be able to carry out the Molecular Test of covid-19 for its structures. Due to the irrational use of the tests, the limit of possibility of supplying reagents by EKEA was exceeded ”, states the relevant document from EKEA to the RAE.
“The need for massive tests is characterized by irrational use. It’s a shame! At the same time, in most hospitals in the basin, but also at the national level, there are hundreds of pending responses! Samples remain in the Hospitals ”, affirm the doctors and members of the Board of Directors of EINAP – who also highlighted the issue – and OENGE, Mary Agrogianni, George Sideris and Elias Sioras in their announcement.
“Hospital capacity is limited and cannot cover even general duty. The limits of human endurance have been exhausted!” Hospital laboratories are groaning for lack of personnel and equipment! “They report.
