US President Joe Biden has invited 40 foreign leaders, including Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin, China, Xi Jinping and Turkey, to attend the first international conference call organized by his government on April 23-22.
The guest list also includes Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Macron, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Spanish Prime Minister Szczecin.
The United States hopes the talks will help accelerate and deepen global efforts to reduce fossil fuel pollution, US government officials said.
Biden seeks to revive the Great Energy and Climate Economics Forum, which was promoted by both former Republican President George W. Bush and Democrat Barack Obama.
The organization of the Forum, which is the commitment of Biden’s campaign, is seen as critical in light of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in November in Glasgow, Scotland.
