The best foot of the new year did Lavrio, in contrast with Panathinaikos who experienced the (first and) most unexpected – though not painful – defeat of this season!
Christos Serelis’ team proved that the victory against AEK alone … was not accidental last week. With too much passion and will, he managed to come back from -13 of 21 ‘(33-46) and reach the lead with a 10-point difference (69-59), having made a 36-13 run!

Instead, Panathinaikos appeared under the circumstances, making the worst face of this season in the second half.
The score for the second half at 61-40 best reflects the image of the match, with Lavrio taking the reins of the match and Panathinaikos seemingly unable to react to the appetite of the hosts! The imposing Kozi was the one who started the home team with three consecutive triples, Diallo had no problem with the non-existent defense of the “greens”, while Muratos, Davis and Carter completed a five shots for Lavrio’s team.
As for the Panathinaikos, who plunged further into their troubles? Papapetrou from the first half … disappeared in the second half of the match, Mitoglou the same, while some outbursts from Nedovic were not enough to reverse the situation,
The match
Panathinaikos had several “ups and downs” after the start of the match, as they did get differences on the scoreboard (2-9 in 4 ‘), but Lavrio tried to “gnaw” them (9-9 in 6’) either with Muratos or with Diallo . However, the exceptional presence of Papapetros in the first ten minutes (12p., 1 / 1dp., 2 / 3tr., 4 / 4b., 5rb.) It was enough for the “greens” to reach +10 (9-19 ) having greatly redeemed the effort they made in defense. But again the Vovoras rotation that followed did not have the desired results, something that the hosts tried – as much as possible – to take advantage of.
Slowly but surely, Christos Serelis’ team managed to reduce to the basket two minutes before the end of time (31-29) after having made a 17-10 individual. However, when Papapetrou and Papagiannis took to the court again, in combination with the excellent presence of Mitoglou (9 points, 5 rebounds, in the first half), the “greens” with their own 11-2 took the difference to +11 (42-31) at the time the second period ended.
The leader of the “clover” had closed the first half with 18 points (3/3 two points, 2/4 three points, 6/6 shots, 6 rebounds) while his team had double rebounds (22-11) double .. errors (11-5) but also 84% in two points (11/13). Also, the percentages were low in triples (3/11 Panathinaikos, 5/18 Lavrio), while the hosts had received scores from Murato (9p., 3a.), Diallo (7p.) And Davis (7p.)
In the third period, the difference reached 13 points for Panathinaikos (33-46), however, the “greens” could not “finish” prematurely with the victory case. Otherwise. They rested at +13 and Lavrio took over again, but to take advantage of it and turn the whole game around! With an impressive individual 26-9 (!!) the -13 became +5 for the hosts (59-55 in the 28 ‘) while Kozi put the icing on the cake with a triple from the center at the end of the third half (64- 59). A period in which the individual score was 33-17 for Serelis’ team. Even when Panathinaikos drew 59-59, Lavrio with a great 10-0 achieved a difference of 10 points (69-59 in 31 ‘)! In fact, at 35 ‘the difference reached +14 for the’ yellows’ (79-65) who were … dominant in the game until that moment. Panathinaikos lowered 6-0 to 79-71 but … until then.
WIN WHY: In the second half, Lavrio was careful to get points from the 14 (!!!) steals he made thanks to his offensive defense and to make a 61-40 run in the second half! In addition, he had 13/32 triples and a half errors from Panathinaikos.
MADE A DIFFERENCE: Glen Cozy was the key player with 18 points and 6/9 three points, while Alfa Diallo had 21 points and 7 rebounds!
INVISIBLE HEROES: Mouratos (17 points, 6 assists), Carter (11 points, 4 assists) and Davis (15 points, 5 rebounds) complemented their two teammates perfectly.
PAST AND NOT TOUCH: Bentley, Foster, Sant-Ross were in another stadium.
KEY POINT: Lavrio’s third ten minutes and individual 33-17.
THE MATCH PHASE: Kozei’s impressive 3-pointer from midfield at the end of the 3rd period of the match, as a result of which he sent the difference to +5 (64-59) for his team.
WHAT THEY THROWN: Panathinaikos throughout the second half and all 21 errors. He washed absolutely nothing.
The rooms: 9-19, 31-42, 64-59, 92-82
