Attica in “red”: stricter measures starting tomorrow

With the increase in coronavirus cases, the country is once again divided into two risk levels.

Thus, the areas of the epidemiological map will be included at two levels:

  1. level A (“Yellow”) – Surveillance
  2. Level B (“red”): higher risk

These categories will include communities, municipalities, cities or complete Regional Units.

The following horizontal measures will apply in both categories:

  • Mask use in indoor and outdoor public spaces
  • Traffic only by SMS or printed form
  • Work with the minimum possible staff (rotation, telework) in the public and private sectors.
  • Distance education in Higher Education Institutions.
  • Kindergartens, elementary schools and all special education schools of all levels are open.
  • Functioning of the Supreme Courts and Special Courts.
  • Operation Super League 1 & 2 and Basketball League.

In their areas Level A. the following measures will be applied:

  • Traffic ban from 9pm
  • Permanent operation of secondary education (gymnasiums and high schools)
  • In places of worship, services with the presence of up to 25 people are allowed, a limit that increases to 50 people in the case of metropolitan churches. And with the distances already planned.
  • Retail, hairdressers, etc. will work normally

In their areas Level B., the measures already in force in areas subject to additional restrictive measures will be applied. That is, traffic will be prohibited from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the next. An exception to this is Attica.

Attica is officially “red”

The Attica Regional Unit, with the exception of the islands of Attica, enters the “red” areas, following a suggestion from epidemiologists and based on epidemiological data formed last week, which puts into effect additional restrictive measures for the region.

Specifically, as announced by the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias, during the information session on the course of the coronavirus pandemic in Greece, starting tomorrow, Saturday, January 30 at 6 in the morning, the following measures for the Regional Unit will go into effect. from Attica except for the regional unit of the islands:

Specifically, as of tomorrow for the prefecture of Attica (excluding the islands) the following applies:

1- Ban on traffic from 21 to 5 hours.

2- Only Gymnasiums operate live (Lyceums operate with distance education)

3- In places of worship, up to 9 people are allowed during the services.

4- The operation of the stores is carried out with the click away method and especially the clothing and footwear stores, as well as the hairdressers, the grocery stores and the bookstores operate with the procedure of the predetermined appointment (click on a store).

Mr. Hardalias paid close attention to Acharnes, where instead of a decrease, there is an increase in cases.

The other “red” areas

Level B also includes the following areas:

  • Lesbos
  • The Eordea municipal unit in Kozani
  • The municipalities of Thebes and Tanagra in Boeotia
  • The municipality of Sparta in Laconia
  • Chalkida Municipality and the Roma Settlement of the Dystia Municipal Unit of the Kymi-Aliveri Municipality of the Evia Regional Unit
  • Halkidiki’s New Propontis
  • The municipality of Patras
  • The municipality of Thira on the island of Santorini
  • Mykonos
  • The entire Attica region, except the islands.

As already mentioned, the same measures will be applied in these areas as in Attica, with the only difference being the prohibition of night traffic. In the above areas, the nightly curfew will begin at 6pm.

What areas were downgraded

Nikos Hardalias also announced the lifting of measures in some areas, where previously increased surveillance measures were in force and will now be included in level A.

These are the following areas:

  • The municipal units of Krokos and Siatista in Kozani
  • The entire Region of Viotia, except the municipalities of Thebes and Tanagra mentioned above.

In Boeotia, in general, there was a great recession of cases, especially in the municipalities of Aliartos, Distomo, Arachova, Levadea and Orchomenos.
