A major police operation is underway in central Vienna, as there are reports of an attack on a synagogue and shootings in other parts of the city.
The Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reports that the attack took place on the street where the city’s largest synagogue is located.
According to initial information quoted by the newspaper, a police guard at the synagogue was shot and his condition is serious.

According to the newspaper, the perpetrator committed suicide by blowing up a belt with explosives.
