Daniel Medvedev, with another big surprise, defeated Dominic Tim in the final of the ATP Finals, winning the most important title of his career!
The huge Medvedev, he won this year’s ATP Finals!
In an AMAZING ongoing finale, the 24-year-old Russian prevailed with the overthrow of Dominic Tim, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 And endorsed one of the greatest trophies in sport!
Who expected it?
Medvedev was in a tragic situation after the US Open until we got to the Masters in Paris, where he made a terrible restart to his season and remained undefeated until the end of the season.
Medvedev, who wins the ATP Finals, took it all and went to the end of the season, undefeated, winning on the way the three best tennis players in the world (Nadal, Djokovic, Tim)
As in the semifinal against Nadal, so in the final, he made a huge surprise against a team that was relatively better in the first two sets, but lacked the killer instinct that the fight would give it!
Of course, he remembers the fact that he won his first Grand Slam in a special US Open, yet he leaves London for the second year in a row with his head down after the final.
From the first set we saw a very “close” final with Tim taking advantage of the single break point he built in the set to take the lead in the match although it was, more clearly, that the match still had a lot of “bread”.
We saw a game of “cat and mouse” by both players in most of the rallies and both of them chose very carefully when to launch their attacks, bringing tremendous quality and variety to the show!
The second set was just as balanced with the Russian going through some difficult moments on his serve, however he saved Tim’s three break points before we reached the tie break and the Austrian’s great chance to reach the finish line.
Although he started the process well, leading 2-0, followed by a unique series from Medvedev who, with seven unanswered points, triumphed by tying the game and sending the entire history of the tournament to a one-set shootout!
The impulse was, in theory, with Medvedev and, in fact, the Russian was better than Tim.
He was the only one to reach a break point, and finally, on his sixth break point in the set, he took the big step towards victory and with more composure, he served exceptionally to pass, with his first match point, in the sports history!

And thus ended a wonderful 12-year period of hosting the ATP Finals in London!
And indeed we have a terrible coincidence pointed out by the winner Medvedev: that the first (Davydenko) and the last winner in London (Medvedev) are Russian!

And thus ended the most painful tennis season in the history of the sport.
A season with five months of inactivity, many canceled tournaments, special conditions for the matches (absence of people, live hawk-eye) but also a great effort from August to see as much tennis as possible.
Let’s hope that 2021 is the return to normalcy at all levels, and in tennis with the next big date in the Australian swing, while the end of the season will find us in a new ATP final in Turin!
