The opening of the restaurant was one of the proposals presented by the Greek government to the Commission.
At the same time, the gradual lifting of measures per week is being considered. The restaurant will most likely open on June 1, while the tourist accommodation may open on June 8.
According to the proposals that “fell” on the table, Greece asks the Commission:
- Free movement of citizens within EU countries, until June 15, to avoid a longer tourist season.
- It is not a quarantine for those who return to their countries of origin, which would be a deterrent for anyone who wants to go on vacation.
- Try 72 hours before the trip from the moment you leave.
- Simultaneous start of all transport, not only air and land, but also maritime.
- There are no airplane seats. If the remaining measurements are observed, the planes can travel completely.
On 5/13 we will have the Commission’s decisions.
The document sent to the Commission specifically states that “uncertainty is the main factor that makes tourism vulnerable”. That is why our response “must include specific steps on how to restart tourism in a coordinated manner. Up-to-date and reliable information and effective communication strategy are more important than ever for both tourists and the tourism industry. Fighting pandemics remains a priority, health measures must be implemented in a way that minimizes the unnecessary impact on cross-border travel. “
The “common approaches and principles to ensure an effective restart of the tourism industry” are described in detail below. It is also noted that these have been developed on the basis of a continuous downward trend in the spread of the virus in the EU, depend on this downward trend and should be periodically reconsidered in the context of the development of the pandemic trend.
