The victims of the coronavirus are increasing in our country, since a 79-year-old man who had been infected by the virus ended up, while he was staying in the “Agia Kyriaki” nursing home in Asvestochori, Thessaloniki.

The unfortunate is the 269th victim of the coronavirus, while so far only 19 people have lost their lives due to this structure.

Yesterday, Monday, a 68-year-old man and another 88-year-old who were hospitalized in Hippocrates and came from the same nursing home ended.

August is the worst month of the pandemic

The month that he fired us turned out to be the worst for the course of the disease in our country, as confirmed cases more than doubled, showing a great spread in urban centers, as well as an extensive spread throughout the country. Also, during the same period, 60 people exhaled the deadly virus.

Specifically, as of July 31, the total number of cases was 4,477, the number of deaths reached 206 and the number of patients admitted to the ICU was only 9.

Another 183 coronavirus infections were announced yesterday, bringing the total number of cases to 10,317.

The number of ICU patients remains high: 36 of our fellow citizens are intubated. Their median age is 69 years, 10 (27.8%) are women and the rest are men. 94.4% of intubated patients have an underlying disease or are 70 years or older. In addition, 153 patients have been discharged from the ICU.

More than two thirds in Attica

According to the geographical distribution of yesterday’s infections, almost a third of the cases were registered in Attica, which remains at the center of the pandemic, which raises concern about the opening of schools, which may be moved to September 14.

In particular, of the 173 domestic cases, 46 are associated with known outbreaks, 12 report contact with a confirmed case, and 10 are associated with recent travel within the country. Furthermore, in Heraklion, where a local blockade was imposed, two infections have been recorded.
