Tension prevailed during the apology of the 47-year-old meat trader accused of the murder of 59-year-old farmer Dimitris Graikos, whose body was found, last May, buried near a cattle drive in eastern Thessaloniki.
The defendant insisted on the version that he had no intention of killing the victim and it all happened during a fight after a fight that broke out between them. This incident provoked the reaction of relatives of the 59-year-old man who verbally attacked the butcher, accusing him of “lying.” With the intervention of the president of the court and after the relatives were asked to leave the courtroom, the apology continued.

“I refused (…) he used indecent words. When I told him to get up and go, he grabbed my shirt. I hit him hard, but not to kill him. He fell on his back and I fell on top of him.” After getting up I saw that he was still unconscious, “he said, describing the efforts he made to bring the unfortunate man back:” I took a bucket of water and threw it in his face. I shook him, but saw no reaction. Then I massaged his chest, as I had learned in the army. I got tired. ” When a little later he tried again – but in vain – to bring him back, he “lost” and did not know what to do, as he said.
“I thought about taking my wife, my brother and a friend,” he continued his apology, describing his decision to bury the body of the unfortunate. “I took his pulse, I saw that there is no life. There I decided to do what I did to hide the fact. I dug a hole and with the help of a loader I dumped the corpse inside and covered it with rubble. I did the same with his car. “
He said that from that day on his health problems began. “I couldn’t forgive myself. I started having problems, I couldn’t sleep, I was disappearing in the field. I couldn’t bear this space and I got another unit. I realized that I had ruined my life and that of my family.” Previously, the 47-year-old referred to the transactions he had with the unfortunate breeder of the slaughter of animals, noting that he had given the victim around 78,000 euros. He insisted that he had no financial debt to anyone, stressing that “if at least one is found, I owe him to hang me.”
The trial will continue with the speech of the headquarters prosecutor and the speech is expected to be delivered later by the civil action and defense lawyers. The decision is expected to be issued in the next court.
