At least five regions in Germany have already exceeded the limit of 50 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants set by the government during the process of lifting restrictions on the pandemic.

More than 150 new cases have been reported in recent days in Sonneberg, in southern Thuringia, focusing on the area hospital, where staff members have also been infected.

Authorities have already suspended the reception of new patients on Friday night, but the emergency department is still operating, with increased security measures. However, new cases have been identified in the broader area, not just in relation to the hospital.

At least 205 new cases have been reported in Cosfeld in North Rhine-Westphalia, with outbreaks of coronavirus starting at a meat-processing plant in the area.

According to health officials who conducted more than 900 tests at the plant, nearly 1,200 workers were required to stay in close proximity to each other while living in apartments of four or five people. Most of them come from Eastern European countries.

Due to development, in the Coesfeld area, as in other parts of the state, the relaxation of restriction measures has already been postponed.

A small increase in the number of new cases was also found in the city of Rosenheim, Bavaria, where 50.5 new cases were registered for every 100,000 inhabitants in the last week.

Today, the Robert Koch Institute announced that the crown’s R0 epidemiological index reached 1.13, from 0.65 last Wednesday. Authorities have repeatedly emphasized that for the pandemic to be considered under control, the index must be below 1.0.
