The “deep concern»By your decision Serbia to carry embassy from in Israel of Tel Aviv in Jerusalem, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced on Friday that his country and Kosovo agreed to conclude diplomatic relations and Kosovo, along with Serbia, will open embassies in Jerusalem.
Netanyahu made the announcement shortly after US President Donald Trump announced in Washington that Serbia and Kosovo had agreed to normalize economic relations after two days of talks at the White House.
“Kosovo will be the first country with Muslim majority “An embassy will be opened in Jerusalem,” Netanyahu said.
“As I said in recent days, Israel’s cycle of peace and recognition is expanding and more countries are expected to join,” he added.
Despite the fact that, in addition to Serbia moving its embassy to Jerusalem, Kosovo will also move to recognition of Israel and the opening of its embassy in Jerusalem, the announcement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, refers only to the Belgrade decision.
The announcement by the Turkish Foreign Minister reads:
“We are deeply concerned by Serbia’s decision to move its embassy from Israel to Jerusalem.
The annexation of Jerusalem by Israel was rejected by the international community and the United Nations (UN).
Various UN resolutions have repeatedly emphasized that the question of Palestine can only be resolved by establishing an independent, sovereign, and geographically continuous Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 border.
However, any country that moves its embassy to Jerusalem is a clear violation of international law.
“We urge all countries to abide by the UN resolutions on this issue, respect the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and refrain from actions that make it even more difficult to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
Only two countries: the United States and Guatemala – Embassies have already been opened in Jerusalem, following the Trump administration’s decision, drawing the ire of the Palestinians.
Israel and the United Arab Emirates agreed last month normalize diplomatic ties in an agreement that Trump helped us reach.
The Jerusalem regime is one of the thorniest obstacles to a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians, who hope that East Jerusalem, which was occupied by Israel in the 1967 war, will become the capital of their future state.
Israel believes the whole cityincluding east sector which it annexed after the 1967 war, as its capital.
