The crime of animal torture is becoming a crime, announced the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Makis Voridis.
The decision was made in the context of the effort to ensure the protection and welfare of animals and in light of the increasing cases of brutal animal abuse that have recently been observed in different parts of the country.
According to an announcement from the ministry, Mr. Voridis’s initiative follows his announcements of further tightening the existing legal framework in order to make the prosecution and punishment of tortured animals more effective.
Elimination of unacceptable phenomena
As the Minister stressed, incidents of violence against animals have no place in a favored state and constitute a grave insult to both the Greek state and society, while pointing out that there is an urgent need to toughen penalties to eliminate such unacceptable phenomena.
In fact, on this issue, the Minister held a meeting on Thursday, October 15 with the activist, known for his work against animal abuse and for his effort to establish -with the cooperation of the Municipalities- an animal police unit, Panagiotis Milas.
Rage for bestiality in Nice
The commotion was sparked by the brutal attack in Nice, where a man stabbed a dog in the middle of the street and seriously injured him.
The animal’s wound was so deep that it injured its lungs, making it difficult for the unfortunate animal to breathe. It was not heard. He was not barking. He did not react.
As described by Pyrros Giotopoulos, a veterinarian at the inter-municipal center for the care of stray animals, at MEGA, “This is not a simple thing.”
With his leg and ribs tied and the signs of the horrendous attack still visible, the dog who testified in Nice, recovers at the stray animal care center and accepts the petting of those in charge.
A few hours earlier, he almost lost his life.
Residents of the area gathered in front of his house and expressed their anger at the heinous act, calling the perpetrator a “murderer”.
Horror in Patras: eight cats were stabbed
After the scare in Nice over the knives a dog received in the middle of the road, it is now Patras’ turn to reveal another disgusting incident.
Patrina, who was walking down the street, saw in front of her a macabre spectacle. Eight cats stabbed. Those who passed and saw the cats could not recover from the scare.
The unfortunate animals appear to have suffered incredible torment before recovering. The woman who first saw these horrific images, with the lifeless bodies of the decapitated cats, immediately alerted the police.
