With protests spreading to other Albanian cities besides Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama on Thursday afternoon (09/12) made statements about the execution by police of Claudian Rasia, 25, two days ago in Tirana, in who was returning home but had violated curfew due to the coronavirus.
Mr. Rama condemned the action of the police officer, calling his act a mad violation of the law. He apologized on behalf of the government and the state. Justice now has the floor, said Rama. The Prime Minister also announced that the Minister of Public Order, Sander Lesiai, presented his resignation today. Mr. Rama announced that he accepted the resignation of his minister, since, after Rama’s statements, he made the text of his resignation public.
But nevertheless, Albanian Prime Minister Seizes Opportunity to Defend Police Work Against Republican President, Ilir Meta and the opposition, who, according to Rama, are behind the demonstrations on behalf of the undefeated young man for his political profit.
As is known, the opposition as a whole condemned the incident, describing the execution of the young man as the culmination of the excessive use of violence against citizens and as an indication of the use of the police for the benefit of politics and the interests of the government.
But nevertheless, Violent protests continue in Tirana, due to the murder of the 25-year-old. The focus of the protests has been concentrated outside the building of the Ministry of Public Order, but also in other parts of the capital. At the same time the police are standing, while taking the streets of the capital and armored vehicles. His main concern is protecting the Prime Minister’s Palace.

Yesterday, Wednesday (12/9), during the violent demonstrations in the capital, 8 policemen, two protesters and a journalist were injured, while the building of the Ministry of Public Order and the Prime Minister’s Palace were damaged. At the same time, the Christmas trees and part of the rest of the Christmas decorations in the capital were set on fire and demolished.
