Excitement and horror for the Air Force “hawk” – Three years have passed since the day George Baltadoros flew over the Aegean to intercept Turkish fighters and decided not to return.

A mirage in the town of George Baltadoros
A Mirage F1 fighter, during the last 24 hours in Morfovouni, the hometown of Hero Sminagou (Vice Admiral after death), George Baltadorou, who lost his life in Fall Mirage 2000-5 on April 12, 2018.
The assembly and installation of the Mirage fighter jet was completed on Monday (03/31) in Morfovouni, in memory of the heroic pilot Georgios Baltadoros.
A team of Air Force technicians worked for three days to position the aircraft, in the plaza that forms the Municipality of L. Plastira on the outskirts of Morfovouni and will bear the name of the heroic Lieutenant Commander who entered service in 2018.
G. Baltadoros, pilot in 331 Squadron All Weather, lost his life on April 12, 2018, at the age of 34, when the Mirage 2000-5 he was flying crashed into Skyros, returning from the interception of Turkish fighters who had violated the Athens FIR.
George Baltadoros was buried with hero honors in his village, in the presence of the political and military leadership of the place.
The General Staff of the Hellenic Air Force and the Chief, Lieutenant General George Blioumis, decided to erect a monument in the village of the undefeated Greek Icarus, Morfovouni of Karditsa, while his bust is already being made to be erected in the same area.
The goal of the municipality is, if epidemiological conditions allow it, to carry out the inauguration of the monument on August 8 and for the specific square to be called “Plaza George Baltadorou”.
George Baltadoros was born in June 1984 and He was the father of two children.
The fatal aircraft had been flown to the Skyros reserve unit over Easter as one of the surveillance aircraft.
George Baltadoros was buried on Saturday (April 14, 2018) in his Morfovouni hometown of Karditsa.
A few hours before his funeral, his colleagues uploaded a shocking post with the image of the unfortunate 34-year-old. “Some Angels are a little different from the ones we know. They don’t have wings on their backs, they are made of iron and they have them on their planes. Many times they have a wife and children but for them we are all Greeks, their family. They think: “I won’t let anyone bother you, not while I’m up here … Friend, I hope you know how grateful we are all down here for all the hours you’ve been looking at us, I wish somehow you feel the love from us.”
