After the F-35, maritime supremacy: design for new frigates: the frigate of the future

[ad_1]

In addition to acquiring next-generation F-35 fighters and maritime supremacy, Greece is grappling with an “iceberg program” whose frigates are just the top.

These are four Lockheed Martin-designed MMSC (Multi-Mission Surface Combatant) class frigates. They are multipurpose frigates, one will be built in an American shipyard and the other three in Greek shipyards. Therefore, this issue will be linked to the privatization of the Greek shipyards. Whoever gets the program, will get a “package” and the modernization of the four existing MEKO-type frigates, in order to achieve homogenization in weapons and sensors with eight ships, most of which will be interconnected.

At the same time, Greece enters the program, becomes a partner, for the future multi-role frigate of the FFG class of the US Navy. The United States Navy will take 20 FFG class ships. With these frigates we will have our needs satisfied for 30 years. The intermediate solution is Arleigh Burke guided missiles. These are powerful ships, with a long range and powerful weaponry known to many in the Greek Navy. These are ships that cover the defense of the area and will provide cover in the eastern Mediterranean, which the Greek side eagerly desired.
