AEK suffered the second defeat in as many games in the Europa League groups. The ‘yellow-blacks’, despite the good image in the second half, were defeated 2-1 by Leicester in OAKA and are left without a point, the qualifying case being very difficult.

The “foxes”, although they did not reach high performance standards, went ahead 2-0 with Vardi (18 ‘) and Tsantouri (39’) and despite the efforts of the Carrera players, with Mandalo in front, in the second half they they went with “three points” from Greece.
Muamer Tankovic, who came on as a substitute, reduced to 2-1 for Union in the 48th minute, but it was also fatal, as he lost a great opportunity to equalize a minute later. Now, the two matches with Zoria in the third and fourth games, will judge whether AEK will keep the hopes of qualifying for the next phase of the tournament.
4-2-3-1, LIVAGIA BACK AND EXTREME LOPES
Massimo Carrera, like PAS, chose the 4-2-3-1 formation, which worked well for most of the match in Zosimades. However, he changed 3/4 of the defense, with Michalis Bakakis, Strato Svarna and Emanuel Insua returning to the starting lineup, while Marco Livagia also took the basic jersey, on the far right of the attack.
The Italian’s surprise, of course, was the use of Elder López in the role of left midfielder, with Insua behind him. A duo that Carrera tested in the last minutes of the match with PAS, obviously taking into account the match with Leicester. From there and beyond, the trio in the center remained unchanged with Kristisic, Sakhof, Mandalo who made the difference at Zosimades, being selected by the Italian.
On the other hand, Brendan Rodgers recovered Jamie Vardy, who had entered as a substitute with Arsenal and gave his team a historic victory, while Chantouri and Albrighton were preferred in place of Medy and Praet in midfield and in the attack.
VARDI’S CLASS RADIO
Leicester entered the field better and wanted to impose its rhythm, but AEK immediately balanced the game and took control of the game. The Insua – Lopez duo performed well, creating several cracks down the left. However, apart from a shot from Mandalos in the 11th minute, Union did not substantially threaten Casper Schmeichel’s home. The guests reacted and fired … a warning shot in the 15th minute with James Madison, the ball passing just off the right crossbar from Panagiotis Tsintotas.
Finally, three minutes later, Vardy’s class spoke. The English striker came out from behind the AEK defense and was overthrown by Tsintotas, with the Austrian Lechler showing the penalty spot. The execution was carried out by himself and despite the efforts of the AEK goalkeeper (who found the ball), he made it 1-0. The “foxes” wanted to take advantage of the momentum, with Vardi becoming the creator of the executor, but Genghis Uder did not overcome Tsintotas in the fourth quarter, who rejected the goal with an excellent intervention.
FATAL LIVAGY AND OLIGORY DEFENSE
The Turk’s opportunity “woke up” the AEK players, who again postponed the reins and lost two great opportunities with Livagia to bring the game to a draw. In the 27th minute, Smichel with an excellent rebound said “no” to the Croatian’s nailed head, while a minute later the AEK striker sent the ball just to the side of the Danish goalkeeper’s right post, from an advantageous position.
In reality, the Union did not take risks with its opponents, but once again “paid” for defensive errors. Specifically, in the 39th minute, Bakakis left Tsanouri unmarked, after taking a corner, and the Leicester midfielder made no mistake, sending the ball into Tsintotas’ net for 0-2.
DOUBLE CHANGE AND RIGHT IN THREE MINUTES
At the start of the second half, Carrera made two corrective moves, with Tankovic – Oliveira replacing Livagia – Ansarifard. The justification for the Italian was not long in coming, after three minutes later, Mandalos found Tankovic with a great ball, who came out the back of the defense and with a beautiful left shot he defeated Smichel reducing it to 2-1.
The two players were back to work together seconds later, but this time the Swede failed from an advantageous position and “squandered” the chance to equalize at 2-2.
The goal and the great opportunity of AEK, “woke up” to Leicester, who raised their performance and looked for a third goal to take a clear advantage of the victory. However, Tsintotas said he was there when he needed it, while the crossbar was on the Greek team’s side, on a shot from Uder in the 64th minute.
After the 70 ‘, despite many changes, the pace of play dropped significantly, with Leicester coming out in favor and driving the lead in their favor. On the other hand, AEK was unable to threaten, except for a distant shot from López, Smichel’s house.
