Hardalia’s announcement contradicts the prime minister’s assurances that there will be no sanctions for students who do not wear a mask.
Despite Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s assurances from the Parliament floor that there will be no sanctions for students who do not wear a mask, the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, Nikos Hardalias, said today during the briefing on the course of the pandemic that “they will be absent “. .
Just yesterday, the prime minister told parliament during the pre-agenda debate on the pandemic that “a young child will not be punished for not wearing a mask to school.”
Nikos Hardalias, before the start of schools on Monday, September 14, announced that within the day a Joint Ministerial Decision will be issued that will regulate the use of the mask in schools, but also the operation of dining rooms.
He reiterated that the use of a non-medical mask is mandatory for all students and teachers, both indoors and outdoors when there are a lot of people, as well as when transporting students. The Vice Minister of Civil Protection also stated that the transparent mask will be used in the Educational Support and Counseling Centers (KESY).
He also recalled that due to the pandemic there will be no excursions, school tournaments and student exchanges between other schools, while school walks will be carried out by department.
How the canteens will work
Nikos Hardalias also referred to the operation of school canteens, pointing out that they must strictly observe cleaning and disinfection measures. “The goal is to protect public health, protect our students, our teachers, and their families,” he said.
Among the measures he mentioned are the following:
- Canteen staff should stay away from work if they have any suspicious symptoms.
- The use of a mask and gloves is mandatory.
- Food and liquids should only be sold packaged and anything that needs to be prepared before being sold in the cafeteria should be ready before school opens.
- Students should keep a distance of 1.5 meters while waiting in the canteen and wear a mask, while it is recommended to have signs to keep their distances.
