Chinese scientists say they have identified a pair of antibodies that neutralize coronary SARS-CoV-2. Antibodies were isolated from a patient who recovered from Covid-19 disease.
Antibodies bind to the protruding spike protein of the coronoid and thus block its ability to bind to ACE2 receptors (the angiotensin-converting enzyme) in human cells. In this way, the virus “door” penetrates the cells. The first tests of the two antibodies in mice reduced the viral load, indicating that the antibodies could provide therapeutic benefits.
Researchers led by Dr. Jan Wu, from the Department of Microbiology, Beijing Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, who published the study in the journal Science, found that the two antibodies B38 and H4 can simultaneously bind in different parts of the body. coronavirus protein tip, resulting in a stronger neutralizing effect than if only one antibody were bound to the virus.
