Can an avowed member of the painkiller club, the liberal Kostis Hatzidakis, get to the Ministry of Labor where the right and the left did not dare? Can a market man work for the benefit of the working class? We do not have so much imagination to hope that in the future the unions will have the portrait of Kostis instead of Marx in the marches. But we have a reasonable expectation that a few tens of thousands of people will receive their pensions!
At the end of 2020, there were 154,000 main pension applications, 120,000 supplement applications, and 50,000 lump sum applications. In other words, for the numbers to come out, tens of thousands of people would have to suffer. And what did the left say “man first”? And what the hell did Giannis Vroutsis say to Avtias every weekend? With what “face” towards these people who expected a pension and did not see a pension?
This is one of the biggest political frauds of the last decade. To save the budget and the excuses, we sent thousands of overdue pensions. European supervisors pretended they didn’t see us as if the problem didn’t exist. But the problem was and still is. It is paid by people who should have already received their pension and have not received it.
This problem was not even addressed by the philanthropic and pro-people left. The children of the town also preferred to throw the problem under the rug. On the contrary, the Kyriakos Mitsotakis government is said to be determined to tackle the problem. On Sunday, the left-wing narrative wanted to cut bonuses, increase working hours to exhaustion and abolish pensions.
Kostis Hatzidakis is the man they call again to get the chestnuts out of the fire. The minister who severed Olympiaki’s strong ties and dealt effectively with the great problem of the PPC is facing the greatest challenge of his political career today. For Kostis Hatzidakis, the Ministry of Labor is the absolute challenge.
Pensions, the reform of the second pillar of the insurance system, supplementary insurance, the reform of the labor market and the proper use of European funds for vocational training are issues that no one else has dared to tackle to date. There is no doubt that there will be great reactions. Behind every issue there are strong interests that they would not want to change in the least.
Can Kostis Hatzidakis? The truth is that not all of the above could or did not want to. And that? With Kostis! Without a second discussion. Kostis Hatzidakis wants and can.
